The Long Sault Trail Race & Ultra takes place each October (race date: 17 Oct 2026) at Long Sault Conservation Area in Bowmanville, Ontario. The event is presented by the local Durham Trail Runners club and invites trail runners from across Durham Region to a one-day festival of looped trail courses through conservation-area woodland.
The weekend’s format is built around two 7 km loops that are combined in different ways to create every distance. Options include a Squirrel 2K Kids Fun Run; two separate 7K Rabbit runs (a Morning Rabbit at 8:00 a.m. and an Afternoon Rabbit at 2:00 p.m.); the Racoon 14K (both 7 km loops); the Coyote 21K (both loops plus an additional third loop); and a Deer 6‑Hour race that alternates the loops for timed laps. The event schedule staggers the 7K starts to give runners the choice of a morning or afternoon outing.
What sets Long Sault apart is its loop-based simplicity and community focus. Every entrant receives event swag; the kids’ 2K is sponsored by North Oshawa Dairy Queen, which provides an ice-cream voucher to each child; and cotton hoodies are sold with proceeds donated to CLOCA. Podium prizes are awarded for first, second and masters places in each distance (subject to registration numbers). An aid station sits at the start/finish and organisers post practical race-day details such as on-site parking with a nominal $7 fee payable in advance.
Registration is handled through Race Roster and entrants are encouraged to sign up early to secure their distance and any available merchandise.
