The K9 Run is a team race for humans and their dogs held at Burnaby Lake Regional Park on Sunday, May 24, 2026 in Burnaby, BC. Organized by K9 Run, the event grew from a handful of rescue fostering stories — founders who used running to help anxious and traumatized dogs regain confidence — and now brings that same energy to a community-friendly race that welcomes walkers, families and competitive teams.
Runners can choose from three distances: a 2.5K Fun route, a 5K Classic and a 10K Challenge. Teams start in staggered heats to keep the start area calm and safe; the 10K field warms up and begins at 8:30 AM (loop course), the 5K follows with a staggered start at 8:50 AM (out-and-back), and the 2.5K sets off at 10:30 AM (out-and-back). All distances are timed and courses close mid-morning, with awards for top finishers in the 5K and 10K.
What sets K9 Run apart is its dog-first focus: routes designed for canine companions, clear gear rules (runners use back-clip harnesses; walkers may use collars), an on-site Adoption Zone that connects participants with local rescues, and a Vendor Village stocked with local dog- and running-focused businesses. Every entry includes a participant kit with a race bib, completion medal and goodies for your dog. The event also provides race-day photos and video highlights, water and finisher snacks, and maintains an environmental focus with biodegradable dog-waste bags and stations for recycling and compost.
