The Saddle Hills Ultra takes over the Spring Lake Ski Hill on October 3, 2026 in Hythe, Alberta. This one-day fall ultra plants runners in the remote Saddle Hills foothills for a looped trail challenge that highlights the region’s open ridgelines and equestrian trails.
The event offers multiple entry options: a 20K single loop, 40K (two laps) and 60K (three laps) for solo runners, plus 2- and 3-person relay options where teammates tag off at the finish line. Race day schedule starts early—60K runners begin at 8:00 AM, followed by the 40K at 8:15 AM, the 20K at 8:30 AM and a 10K at 9:30 AM—with package pickup available the day before in town.
What sets Saddle Hills apart is the combination of wide-open ridge views, truly remote trail running and a strong community feel. The course mixes gravel roads, equestrian tracks and forest paths with rolling, runnable climbs; wildlife awareness and mandatory safety gear reflect the event’s wild setting. Entry includes race swag and on-course support: long-sleeve shirts (while supplies last), a finisher medal, fully stocked aid at 10K and at the start/finish, and a post-race BBQ and festivities that keep crews and competitors lingering at the ski hill. The race also highlights local support for Spring Lake Ski Hill.
Registration is open through Race Roster and online entries close at 12:00 PM (MST) on October 2, 2026; note entries after September 16 are not guaranteed event merchandise. Runners should plan pace carefully—the 60K carries a strict 9-hour cutoff and all participants must reach the 10K feed zone by 3:45 PM.
